Carter Van Pelt has been an active reggae DJ for over two decades. He founded Coney Island Reggae On The Boardwalk in 2010 – one of the world’s only regular, all-vinyl reggae soundsystem events, now held four times each summer on the iconic Brooklyn boardwalk. He has performed at dozens of venues and events in New York, including SummerStage; events including the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and Reggae On The Rocks; and venues ranging from The Shelter in Shanghai, China to Donna Karan’s seaside mansion, The Sanctuary, in Turks and Caicos, and for Diplo’s 40th birthday dinner and beach party in Portland, Jamaica. For ten years, Carter hosted the long running Saturday morning radio program on Columbia University’s WKCR-FM and has years of community radio and commercial broadcasting experience. In the 1990s and 00s, Carter wrote extensively about Jamaican music for magazines including The Beat, Reggae Report, Dub Missive, Wax Poetics, and others. He also published the zine, 400 Years.
