Bim Sherman, whose aliases include Jarrett Tomlinson, Jarrett Vincent, Lloyd Vincent, J.L.Vincent, Bim Shieman, Lloyd Tomlinson and (apparently his real name) Bob West, had his earliest works released on a variety of Jamaican labels, including Santic, Red Sea and Sun Dew, before starting his own label, Scorpio, during the 1970s. In the late 1970s, some of those 7" sides became available in the UK on 12" pressings, compiling the A and B sides of two original JA releases on one 12". Often the same song would appear on different issues and releases with different titles (for example, "Fit To Survive" and "Tribulation", "World Of Dispensation" and "Revolution", and "Blacker Sound", "Black Jah Jah Sound" and "Ever Firm"). In the early 1980s, Sherman started to record for On-U Sound in the UK. Sometimes he would record new versions of his old material and release them, usually under the Singers And Players banner, but other times he would use the original JA recordings, some of which were already released in the UK, under his own name, a year or two previously. In 1984, he started Century Records, originally through On-U Sound, and released two albums {CENTURY 100, 200}. Century then stopped releasing material, and Sherman's product appeared on RDL, the Revolver Distribution Label {RDL 600, 700, 800, 900, 1100}, including a sequence of dub albums of of early tracks. In the late 1980s Century became operational again, with straight reissues of the RDL releases (with similar CENTURY catalogue numbers), and with compilation CDs featuring tracks from the RDL albums (with completely new CENTURY catalogue numbers, but, confusingly, identical titles to some of the LPs). Additionally, a remixed version of the album CENTURY was issued in 1990, but with the same catalogue number as the original {CENTURY 100}. Subsequent Sherman releases were on Century, often featuring On-U Sound musicians. Sherman also guested on many On-U Sound recordings, and on various releases on other labels by other artists. 0.5 Organisation Of Discography. This discography is split into five parts: Part One is a list of early Jamaican releases, with all known details given (which are very few). Note that this list is almost certainly incomplete. Part Two gives details of singles released by Sherman in the UK, in chronological order. Part Three gives similar details for UK albums. Since all known Sherman albums originally issued in Jamaica have been reissued in the UK, they are included with the UK albums in order of UK reissue date. Part Four is a brief list of appearances by Sherman on On-U Sound and Hitrun releases: further details are available from THE HOME GAME and THE DUB ENCOUNTER. Part Five documents other Sherman recordings, such as guest appearances with other artists. The chronological order is strictly adhered to (where dates are known, or can be guessed), regardless of catalogue number conventions or matching album titles. This is in contrast to similar On-U Sound related discographies, where releases may be listed in catalogue number order, or have identically- titled releases in the same entry. 0.6 Version Like Rain. This discography has been incredibly difficult to compile, mainly due to the multitude of dub versions, alternative titles, re-recordings, re-issues, mis-labellings and ambiguities on the releases. The second part of the Rhythm Directory exclusively features Bim Sherman rhythms, constructed to assist interpretation, and references to this are with the string "[rhythm B-xx]", where xx is the rhythm number. Bim Sherman tracks which are already included in the main On-U Sound Rhythm Directory are referred to in the usual way. In general, the track titles listed are those quoted on the sleeve or label, but in many cases these are either slightly or grossly in error. Where a title is known to be wrong, and the 'true' title is known or can be surmised, it is given after the quoted title, preceded with a '=', . The characters "= ?" are used where the title is probably wrong, but the true title is indeterminable.
